Chinese New Year

.

The New Year in China isn’t on the same day as our New Year, it depends on the lunar calendar.

It is the most important festival in China but the date changes every year, this year is on 16th of February and it is the Dog Year.  The red colour is important (an old tradition) because it brings good luck.

The New Year in china is celebrated because of a kind of dragon (called Nian) that at the beginning of spring goes out from the sea and kills children and people. Because of this, on New Year’s day, people put stone soldiers on their house doors to protect them from Nian.

There is a statue of the god of riches and at the New Year, people offer money to this statue to bring them a lot of money .
